Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the treatment hurt?

You may experience some minor discomfort during your treatment. However we are careful to always work within our patient’s comfort level. Most of our patients report that our soft tissue treatments feel like a “good hurt.”

Q: How many treatments will I need?

This depends on the severity and chronicity of your injury or condition. Treatment numbers range from as little as 1 treatment to as high as 30 treatments. Our average client requires 8-10 treatments.

Q: Is it normal to experience pain after the treatment?

Some of our clients experience a slight aggravation of their symptoms following their treatment. This is a normal response that usually lasts 24-36 hours. We suggest using a cold pack or ice on the affected area. Ice acts as a natural anti-inflammatory that will help to reduce your pain.

Q: What is the best treatment for me?

Depending on your condition and examination findings, we will recommend a course of treatment that may include one or a combination of the following: soft tissue treatments, laser therapy, joint mobilization, exercise/strengthening or massage.

Q: Once I start treatment, do I have to keep on coming forever?

This depends upon the type of injury or condition. Remember, our primary goal at Health First is to resolve your complaint- to eliminate or reduce your pain and restore strength and function. We always aim to do this in a time-limited fashion.

Many of our patients complete a series of treatment, experience a successful result and are discharged from care. We don’t expect to see these folks again until they have a new complaint or injure themselves again!

However, some conditions we treat are chronic in nature, for example, degenerative arthritis and work related repetitive strain. Patients who suffer from these types of conditions often benefit from some level of ongoing care.

Q: What happens if I am late for my appointment?

As much as possible, the practitioners at Health First strive to run on time. As part of our mission to provide excellent service, we try to respect your time and do not want to keep you waiting.

If you arrive late for your appointment, we will do our best to accommodate you. However, it is possible your appointment may have to be shortened or re-scheduled. This helps us stay on time for the client who is scheduled after you.

Q: Do I need a referral before I consult your clinic?

No, you do not require a referral to consult Health First.

Q: Does insurance cover the cost of treatment?

Many private insurance plans offer chiropractic and massage benefits. Different plans cover differing amounts towards your treatment. You may also have a health spending account that can be used towards treatments and exercise sessions. Please check with your individual insurance carrier for details.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

Therapy/Treatment:

We kindly ask for 24 hours notice when canceling or re-scheduling an appointment. This allows us to better serve others who may be on a waiting list for an appointment.

Exercise:

We require 24 hours notice to cancel or re-schedule an appointment. Health First reserves the right to charge the full session fee for missed appointments. This covers the cost of reserving the instructor and studio space especially for you.

Q: Will you bill my insurance directly?

At this time, we direct bill for WCB, ASEBP (teachers) and Greenshield insurance. Motor vehicle accident claims are also billed directly so that no out-of-pocket costs are incurred to you.
